Tamako Yokoi and Bunzo Fujita established Private Women’s School of Fine Arts.

1901
Joshibi opened at Yumimachi campus. (now Bunkyo-district, Tokyo)

1902
Shizu Sato became the first school president.

1909
Kikuzaka Campus was completed, and the campus was relocated there.

1915
Attached High School of Private Women’s School of Fine Arts was established.

1916
Attached High School of Private Women’s School of Fine Arts was renamed
Private Sato Women’s School.

1929
Joshibi was approved as a technical college.

1935
Joshibi was relocated to Suginami campus.

1947
Sato Junior High School was established through Education reform.

1948
Sato High School was established through Education reform.

1949
Joshibi University of Art and Design was established through Education reform.

1950
Joshibi College of Art and Design was established.

1951
Sato High School and Junior High School were renamed Joshibi High School of Art and Design.

1990
Sagamihara Campus (Sagamihara city, Kanagawa Prefecture) was located.

1994
Graduate School of Art and Design, Master’s Degree Program was established.

1996
Graduate School of Art and Design, Doctoral Degree Program was established.

2001
100th Anniversary Building was completed.
Joshibi Art Museum (JAM) opened.

2003
Joshibi University of Art and Design Research Institute and Joshibi Open College Center were established.

2016
Dyeing and Weaving Cultural Resources Research Institute was established.

Department of Collaborative Design opened
